A Whimsical Woodsy Engagement: Brooke & Grant

Finding the words to describe these two and the beauty in their engagement session is a hard task. Anyone who knows them knows how sweet and caring they are. Anyone who has met them knows how much they adore each other. And anyone who has had the opportunity to photograph them knows how easy they make it.

So let’s take it back to our first meeting. Grant wasn’t able to make it, so his mother took his place along with Brooke. She was easy to get to know, with her bubbly, kind-hearted personality and we found that we had no problem finding things to talk about. Eventually, we learned there are many similarities between Brooks & Grant. We found out they share a common interest in style, raw denim, and a well groomed beard (if you’ve seen either of them, you know what I’m talking about). Needless to say, we couldn’t wait to meet Grant as well.

We picked a Monday afternoon in June to meet the couple at Oak Openings Preserve. It was a cool early summer day - the perfect backdrop for their Southwestern-inspired styles and props. Guitar in hand, Grant looked ready for a cross-country adventure with Brooke as his beautiful muse. We made the most of Oak Openings’ unique mix of terrain; with a jam session in the forest, a secluded moment in a field of flowers, and a walk on the sandy dunes all in a matter of hours. Their joy of spending this time as a newly engaged couple and taking a moment to just focus on each other was contagious, and made shooting them that much more enjoyable.

We had the best time hanging out with Grant & Brooke and loved seeing them interact as a couple (with just a little beard maintenance talk between the boys). The more we got to know them, the more our anticipation built to see what this creative duo had planned for the big day just a few weeks later. After everything we heard about the wedding plans, we knew it was going to be gorgeous, sweet and love-filled. We were anxious to see the stunning historical church and the beautiful blush hues of the bridesmaids dresses. Brooke was sure not to spill too much about her wedding dress, which I was dying to see (especially after the dresses she chose for this shoot). And after hearing about Grant’s mom’s ability to make any place look like a Pottery Barn catalog, we knew everything was going to look absolutely stunning.

Above all of the talk about details and decor, the excitement Brooke & Grant radiated was undeniable. Their anticipation to read their vows, say ‘I Do’ and spend the rest of their lives together was clear. Even in the short time that we spent with them during the engagement session, we felt like old friends who have been waiting for this day to come for years. We couldn’t wait to hear Grant sing the song that he wrote to his bride as she walked down the aisle and to see their close family and friends celebrate the love and joy.

When we arrived to shoot the big day on June 27th, our expectations of this beautiful union were undoubtedly filled. Everything was as beautiful as we could have imagined, and then some. We can’t wait to share the images from the big day and to tell you the story about the rain that lifted right before the ceremony and held off until just after we took our last outdoor photo. Here is a little teaser. Be sure to keep an eye out in the next few weeks for the Perry Wedding!
